Preventive and General Dentistry

Whether you already sport a healthy smile or you have never felt like your teeth have been attractive and comfortable, Oak Tree Dentistry bases its approach to dental care on helping patients achieve and protect their oral health with preventive and general dentistry for adults, teens, and children.

A Healthy Smile Starts with Prevention

The best dental treatment is to avoid oral health problems altogether. Dr. Pritpal Gill customizes treatment plans to meet the needs of patients of every age and every level of health.

  • Dental exams
  • Professional cleanings
  • X-rays and diagnostics
  • Periodontal evaluations
  • Oral cancer screenings

A small investment in prevention can help patients avoid dental emergencies and serious oral conditions in the future, saving them thousands of dollars over their lifetimes.

Prevention Is a Collaborative Effort

Keeping smiles healthy is our priority. However, prevention is a collaboration between you and your dentist. Below, we've shared tips to keep your family's smile healthy between dental checkups and teeth cleanings in Lodi or Elk Grove.

Brush Thoroughly

Sometimes, we get busy and skip brushing or don't spend as much time as we should. It's essential to take your time and hit every surface. Shoot for two-minute brushing and flossing sessions at least twice daily.

Floss Carefully

When flossing your teeth, always use a fresh string section for every passthrough to avoid moving debris from place to place, and never force the floss. For best results, floss at least once daily, and after every meal is even better.

Report Changes

If you notice oral health changes between checkups and teeth cleanings, including sores that don't heal, bleeding gums, and tooth sensitivity, always call our dental office for guidance or to schedule an appointment.

The quality of work performed was excellent

Not only is Dr Gill a great dentist, he was great to work with! The quality of work performed was excellent right along with the quality of care in his patients and staff. With experience he is a very trustworthy doctor, from kids to elders.

Comprehensive General Dentistry

Teeth are strong, but modern diets, teeth grinding, and accidents can all cause damage. General dentistry, using the latest restorative materials and leading-edge techniques, can repair the teeth you have, which is usually the most affordable and the healthiest way to protect your smile.

We can offer tooth-colored restorations that strengthen teeth and enhance smiles whenever possible.

  • Fillings
  • Crowns
  • Bonding
  • Onlays
  • Inlays
  • Veneers

Dr. Gill will always present all of your treatment options and help you make a confident choice. We create treatment plans for patients that meet their goals and fit within their budgets.

Teeth Replacement Options

Dr. Gill strives to save your natural teeth whenever possible. Sometimes, however, removing a tooth is the only way to protect your oral health and comfort. When this occurs, he will provide you with teeth replacement options to complete your smile.

  • Dental implants
  • Bridges
  • Dentures
  • Partial dentures
  • Implant dentures and bridges

Tooth loss does not need to be the end of good oral health. We offer reliable ways to restore your smile when teeth are missing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Visit the dentist every six months for checkups and teeth cleanings. This schedule has been shown to keep teeth and gums healthy in the long term. In conjunction with regular dental care, it’s essential to maintain excellent oral hygiene at home.

Dental exams allow your dentist to diagnose conditions early, including:

  • Tooth decay
  • Emerging infections
  • Gum disease

When we can diagnose gum disease early (gingivitis), we can typically cure it. When it becomes periodontal disease, the only option is to treat the condition for improved dental health and overall wellness.

Without treatment, gum disease seriously threatens your heart, lungs, and other body systems.

Dental cleanings eradicate tartar and the bacteria that lead to infections, tooth decay, and gum disease.

Advice for At-Home Smile Care

It’s essential to keep your smile healthy between checkups and cleanings. Brush at least twice daily and floss once. It's even better to clean your teeth every time you eat.

We also urge you to call us if you have questions.

Remember, long-term oral health is always a collaboration between your dentist and you!

Is It Time for Your Dental Checkup?

You need preventive dentistry to maintain your teeth and gums long-term. The American Dental Association and most dentists recommend these visits every six months for thorough examinations and professional teeth cleanings.

These visits are part of your overall wellness and should always be coupled with excellent oral hygiene at home.

Lodi and Elk Grove Dentist: Why Dental Care Matters

Your toothbrush and floss are not meant to stand in for dental care but to complement these dental checkups and teeth cleanings. Without regular dental care, you’re at risk for tooth decay, bad breath, gum disease, and emergency tooth infections.

Checkups help your dentist spot emerging problems before they cost you time, money, and pain. At the same time, teeth cleanings rid your teeth of the ingredients that cause oral health problems.

Remember, gum disease is a serious dental health complication that can cause:

  • Tooth loss
  • Chronic bad breath
  • Heart and lung problems
  • Autoimmune issues
  • Specific types of dementia

Strong clinical evidence and studies tell us that gum disease requires a diagnosis and treatment sooner rather than later.

Schedule Your Next Dental Checkup Today

Call us today at (916) 714-6644 to schedule your next or first appointment with our dental team. You can also contact us with questions about our treatments and services.

Yes, in most cases, your dentist can tell if you smoke or use tobacco—this includes vaping.

When you smoke, there are telltale signs, which can include all or some of the following:

  • Receding Gums or Inflammation
  • Oral Lesions or Irritation
  • Bad Breath and Dry Mouth
  • Tooth Stains
  • Increased Plaque or Tartar
  • New Tooth Decay
  • Slow Healing

Smoking indeed disrupts saliva production, leading to dry mouth, plaque buildup, decay, and even gum disease. Smoking also increases your risk of developing oral cancer.

If you smoke, please don’t try to hide the habit from your dentist. Of course, we want you to quit for your own health and wellness, but when your dentist or doctor knows you use tobacco, they can be on the lookout for all the known consequences.

Remember, tobacco use is difficult to hide—even if you rinse thoroughly and chew gum before your visit—because your dentist knows what to look for!

Is It Time for Your Next Checkup and Teeth Cleaning?

If you smoke, we recommend speaking with your doctor about cessation treatment. Also, if it’s time for your next checkup and teeth cleaning in Lodi or Elk Grove, contact a dental team member today.

We accept third-party financing through CareCredit and LendingClub.

At Oak Tree Dentistry, your smile is our passion, and so is your comfort!

We’re pleased to offer three levels of dental sedation in Lodi and Elk Grove to meet your needs.

Types of Sedation Dentistry We Offer

Our team monitors you closely during dental sedation, and we take a health history to ensure your candidacy.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide is a safe gas administered through a nasal cannula during your procedure. You feel detached and melancholy with nitrous, but you’re still aware. This sedation method means you’ll feel less anxious during your procedure, but there are no lingering effects. You can drive yourself home or back to work.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is a pill given before treatment. With this sedation method, you’ll feel completely relaxed and may not recall the finer details of your treatment. You’ll need a friend or loved one to drive you. We also recommend resting for the day and not making any life-altering decisions.

IV Sedation

As with oral sedation, you should have transportation and rest for the remainder of the day following your procedure. IV sedation is delivered directly into the bloodstream. You’ll be minimally conscious but mostly unaware of what’s happening. It’s doubtful you’ll remember your procedure.

Contact Your Elk Grove or Lodi Dentist Today

Contact a dental team member today if you want more information about sedation dentistry.
