Invisible Braces

A straight smile with perfectly aligned teeth is undoubtedly beautiful. Proper alignment also has many oral health benefits, leading more adults to seek orthodontic treatment than ever before.

A straight smile leads to a comfortable bite and ideal jaw function. It is also easier to clean, reducing the risk of decay and periodontal disease.

Many of our professional and socially active older teen and adult patients prefer to avoid the brackets and wires associated with traditional orthodontics. At Oak Tree Dentistry, Elk Grove dentist Dr. Pritpal Gill offers an invisible alternative.

3 Tips for Successful Treatment with Clear Aligners

You visit the dentist and learn you're a candidate for Invisalign or ClearCorect in Lodi and Elk Grove. You've just started treatment and may wonder how you can contribute to your treatment success. Fortunately, clear orthodontic therapy is straightforward, but there are things to consider. We've shared a few tips below.

Follow the Directions

Your dentist provides a schedule, letting you know when to change your aligners and how often you should wear them (usually 22 hours daily). Be sure to adhere to your dentist's schedule.

Brush and Floss Daily

You never want cavities, oral infections, or dental health complications. This is especially important during your orthodontic treatment. Be sure to adhere to an excellent oral care routine.

Keep Your Aligners Safe

We recommend not storing your aligners on a sink or food tray when eating and cleaning your teeth. You may lose or accidentally discard them. Always use the proper case for storage.

Invisalign® and ClearCorrect® Invisible Braces

Invisalign and ClearCorrect are similar concepts under two different brand names. Both replace the need for brackets and wires on teeth by using a series of clear, smooth plastic aligners to gradually move teeth into ideal alignment.

Both Invisalign and ClearCorrect have several advantages over traditional orthodontics and can treat nearly every concern about misalignment.

Benefits of Invisible Braces

Patients prefer clear aligners for many valid reasons:

  • Removable for eating and cleaning teeth
  • No dietary restrictions
  • Smooth and comfortable
  • Nearly invisible, even to people sitting right across from you
  • Shorter treatment times, in some cases

An orthodontic evaluation with Dr. Gill will determine if you are a good candidate for invisible braces.

Getting Started with Clear Braces

Once you decide that you want a straight smile, getting started is easy. You will have a personal consultation with Dr. Gill to discuss treatment time estimates and costs. Then, he will gather valuable information for planning your new smile. Dr. Gill uses the latest iTero digital scan technology to obtain 3-D images of your teeth and predict your final results.

  • Teeth and bone evaluation
  • X-rays and photos of teeth
  • Digitally scanned impressions

Sometimes, small tooth-colored buttons, called engagers or attachments, will be applied to teeth to assist in movement. We remove them entirely at the end of treatment.

Straightening Teeth with Invisalign and ClearCorrect

Because aligners are removable, we depend on patient compliance to ensure excellent results.

  • Wear aligners for about 22 hours per day
  • Remove them only to eat and for brushing and flossing
  • Use each set of aligners for 2 to 3 weeks before graduating to the next set
  • Keep regular maintenance appointments with Dr. Gill
  • Clean aligners with lukewarm water and a gentle aligner cleaner
  • Avoid leaving them in a hot car or where pets can reach them

Working together, we can help you achieve the straight, healthy smile you have always wanted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Invisalign® is an orthodontic option for patients who don’t want to spend a long time in metal and wire braces. The aligners are virtually invisible with Invisalign, so they don’t draw attention to treatment.

How Invisalign Works

You first visit your Lodi or Elk Grove dentist to ensure that Invisalign will correct your orthodontic issues. If Invisalign or ClearCorrect—which we also offer—is the best solution, we take impressions of your teeth. Then a lab fabricates your aligners for treatment, which can last for several months or as long as two years, depending on the complexity of your orthodontic issues.

You wear each aligner according to the schedule Dr. Pritpal and his team provide. Then you go on to the next in the series. You’ll notice your teeth coming into position as you move through your supply.

At the end of treatment, we create a custom retainer. You wear the retainer at night to guard against orthodontic relapse.

Benefits of Invisalign

Unlike metal and wire braces, you can remove Invisalign to clean your teeth and eat meals. This makes oral hygiene sessions more effective and meals more pleasant.

Because Invisalign is made of soft plastic, you’re smile will not feel weighed down by cumbersome metal.

Straight teeth are easier to clean effectively. They are also healthier because an aligned bite reduces tooth wear.

Issues That Invisalign Can Correct

Invisalign can correct the following orthodontic problems:

  • Twisted, crooked, and overlapping teeth
  • Unusual gaps or spaces between teeth
  • Bite issues, including the overbite
  • General misalignment issues

Your dentist will talk to you more about what to expect with clear braces in Lodi or Elk Grove.

Teenagers enjoy Invisalign® because it allows them to straighten their teeth aesthetically. They don’t want to worry about wearing metal and wire braces around their peers. But adults also prefer a more discreet orthodontic system.

Fortunately, Invisalign in Lodi or Elk Grove is perfectly suitable for adults of all ages—from moms and dads to senior citizens and everyone in between.

So, if you missed the orthodontic window in childhood or experienced an orthodontic relapse in the past, you could talk to your Lodi or Elk Grove dentist about reclaiming your smile with Invisalign.

About ClearCorrect and Invisalign

Invisalign and ClearCorrect are custom tooth trays created after taking impressions of your teeth. The tooth trays are worn throughout the treatment timeline but changed periodically to coax your teeth into straighter and healthier positions gently.

Invisalign can correct the following:

  • Bite misalignment
  • Smile gaps
  • Overcrowded teeth
  • Crooked and twisted teeth

Your dentist will evaluate your orthodontic concerns to determine whether clear braces are the right option for you.

And after treatment, we provide a custom retainer to ensure your teeth remain in their new positions.

Most patients choose Invisalign because it’s a discreet way to straighten their teeth—no metal brackets or guidewires—but this is only one of the benefits.

Our dentists in Elk Grove and Lodi recommend Invisalign for various reasons aside from discreet aesthetics. Of course, many patients ask for Invisalign by name and simply want a straight and attractive smile.

Let’s explore the many benefits of Invisalign clear aligners.

Invisalign Benefits for Patients of All Ages

Invisalign offers many advantages, both during and after orthodontic treatment.

#1 Invisalign Is Practically Invisible

Some patients would rather have crooked teeth than spend months or even years in metal braces. Invisalign can address most orthodontic issues without bracket and wire braces. Additionally, friends and colleagues may not notice your aligners, giving you a discreet experience.

#2 Invisalign Means No Food Restrictions

With traditional braces, there are certain foods your dentist recommends you not eat. With Invisalign, you can remove the aligners and enjoy your meals, never worrying about anything sticking to your orthodontic system or damaging your wires.

#3 Invisalign Is Removable

Brushing and flossing your teeth can be challenging with traditional braces. You must work around wires, making it harder to clean your teeth efficiently and effectively. With Invisalign, you can remove your aligners to brush and floss!

#4 Invisalign Means Fewer Dental Visits

With traditional braces, you must visit the dentist often for guidewire adjustments. With Invisalign, you come in every four to six weeks so the dentist can monitor your progress and ensure everything is lining up on schedule.

#5 Straight Teeth Are Typically Healthier

After Invisalign treatment, you’re left with an aligned smile that is easier to brush and floss effectively and efficiently. Also, when teeth don’t overlap or are not crowded, it’s more difficult for bacteria and plaque to hide and collect. Finally, an aligned bite puts less stress on your teeth because you’re working with a symmetrical bite.

How Invisalign Works: The Process

Invisalign is a series of steps that starts with you coming into our Lodi or Elk Grove dental office for a consultation with the dentist. This visit determines whether Invisalign will address your needs and goals. Additionally, we talk to you about pricing, how long you’ll need treatment, and what to expect following Invisalign therapy.

If you decide to proceed with clear braces, your dentist takes careful impressions of your teeth. We forward these impressions to the Invisalign lab so they can create your aligners.

When the aligner supply arrives at our dental office, you come in, and we show you how to wear the first set in the series. You then take your aligners home and change them every few weeks, moving through your supply.

When you finish treatment, your dentist provides a custom retainer. You wear this retainer at night to protect your teeth from orthodontic relapse.

Throughout the process, we are always here if you have questions about your Invisalign treatment.

Issues that Invisalign Can Correct

  • Bite alignment issues, including overbite
  • Twisted, crooked, and overcrowded teeth
  • Bite misalignment issues
  • Gaps or inconsistent spacing between teeth

Call us today to learn more about Invisalign or schedule your consultation with the dentist. Also, ask a dental team member about our current (as of this writing) Invisalign consultation special!

In many cases, if you have taken good care of your teeth over the year—brushing, flossing, and seeing your dentist—you are likely a good candidate for Invisalign or ClearCorrect in Elk Grove or Lodi, CA,

However, we provide a consultation to ensure no underlying oral health conditions like early gum disease before starting. Your consultation involves a checkup with the dentist and a conversation. We encourage you to ask questions and share your smile goals with the team. This visit determines your candidacy for clear aligners.

How Clear Aligners Work

Clear braces are a series of aligners that fit snuggly over the teeth. You change them out periodically to help maneuver your teeth into straight positions. Invisalign and ClearCorrect treatment can last several months or up to two years, depending on your orthodontic issues and smile aims.

Your aligners are fabricated from impressions of your teeth, so they are customized just for you.

After you finish orthodontic therapy, your dentist fits you with a retainer to help protect your investment. You wear your retainer at night to gently remind your teeth to stay in position.

At Oak Tree Dentistry, your smile is our passion, and so is your comfort!

We’re pleased to offer three levels of dental sedation in Lodi and Elk Grove to meet your needs.

Types of Sedation Dentistry We Offer

Our team monitors you closely during dental sedation, and we take a health history to ensure your candidacy.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide is a safe gas administered through a nasal cannula during your procedure. You feel detached and melancholy with nitrous, but you’re still aware. This sedation method means you’ll feel less anxious during your procedure, but there are no lingering effects. You can drive yourself home or back to work.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is a pill given before treatment. With this sedation method, you’ll feel completely relaxed and may not recall the finer details of your treatment. You’ll need a friend or loved one to drive you. We also recommend resting for the day and not making any life-altering decisions.

IV Sedation

As with oral sedation, you should have transportation and rest for the remainder of the day following your procedure. IV sedation is delivered directly into the bloodstream. You’ll be minimally conscious but mostly unaware of what’s happening. It’s doubtful you’ll remember your procedure.
